Calendar Trouble - 2.8.3 New Install

I have OpenEMR-2.8.3 installed and all of the functionality working except the calendar. I have double checked the permissions for setting READ and WRITE privileges for the Web server for the two directories:

openemr-2.8.3/interface/main/modules/PostCalendar/pntemplates/cache

openemr-2.8.3/interface/main/modules/PostCalendar/pntemplates/compiled

My Issues are:

1. Thy calendar window is blank when I log in. There is just a big white space.  I have made sure that my "test users" are active and authorized.

2. In the "Calendar" section of "Administration", when I click on "Categories" - a window pops up asking me to save "index.php" file or open it with "gedit." All of the other item choices work ("Clear Smarty Cache", "Test System", and "Category Limits").

I would appreciate any suggestions as I am stumped!

Do I need to re-install?

looks to me more like a webserver issue

I might have missed a setting during the setup, I will give that a shot.  I appreciate your quick replies!
