Billing Rates that vary by Region

Medicare rates vary by the region in which the treating facility location is located. For example a patient seen for an office visit (CPT code 99213) in the borough of Manhattan NYC is billed a different rate than if seen for the same office visit (CPT code 99213) in the Bronx, NYC. How does one configure rates by carrier, by region?

  1. Determine who is the Medicare carrier, for NY it’s NGS.

  2. Choose jurisdiction, see attachment 1.

  3. Choose area, Manhattan=01, Bronx=02; see attachment 2.

  4. Choose entire Fee Schedule or individual CPT code lookup and enter filters. See attachment 3.
