Billing Manager Re-Open not working

juggernautsei wrote on Friday, May 01, 2015:

We have an issue with the Re-Open button not activating when the box in the billing manager is selected. It just started yesterday. Have anyone heard of this happening before?

I have tried a dozen or more encounters and none of them will activate the Re-Open function. We have not made any coding changes to this section ever.

Thanks and regards

Questions:
When was your last patch or upgrade?
What version are you using?
Has this been attempted by a ‘superuser’ (admin access).
Have you tried re-starting mysql and apache?
What server OS?

-Sherwin, I know you have been through this kind of stuff before, and this ain’t your first rodeo, but let’s just ask the dumb questions first.

This is funny!!!

I have not installed any patches since the upgrade to 4.2.0
I am logged in as a super user admin.
I have restared the Windows 7 box and it has WAMPSERVER 2.5 64bit

I have tried both firefox and chrome, it won’t activate in either.

Sorry, for not posting this vital information to help with the troubleshooting process.

Are the other 4 buttons functional?

Anything in error logs?

aethelwulffe wrote on Saturday, May 02, 2015:

…and is error reporting set to the development status, or is it silent? Is your WAMP install php in strict mode?
Dude, I KNOW I have seen this issue before. I am racking by tiny brain, and it is squeaking.
Any chance of doing an sql dump, installing the xampp pack on another machine, then trying your DB with the base code? …then trying your code on the same dealio?

The other 4 buttons are function is what make this so hard.

juggernautsei wrote on Sunday, May 03, 2015:

Thanks for racking your brain with me. WAMP is not operating in strict mode that I can find.

I really don’t like xampp because it is not intuitive to me. WAMP is intiative to me. I can do a data dump and do a xampp installation. But if it works, it only proves what I think I already suspect that this is a system error and not a code error. Because in good practice. I have not deleted or overwritten the previous 4.1.2(7). I opened it up to see if it has the same issue and it does. I have not changed anything over there since the upgrade. I even reloaded an old backup copy and it did the same thing. So, I am kinda sure this is not a code issue. Something in apache, php or mysql changed in the last 72hrs.

Help me understand what the system is doing when the check box is clicked. What is it checking before it ungrays the Re-Open button?

There are times when it is not worth the trouble of answering why. Sometimes a fix is good enough. Something was corrupted. Perhaps a solution can be had without pinpointing the source.

Would suggest the Windows XAMPP package be installed & old data brought into it.

If the problem goes away, then upgrade OS & VM (if available), reinstall stack & install 4.2.0 (1).

NOT A SYSTEM ISSUE!! YEAH!!

Ok, I just finished a clean install new database and entered one patient. Filled out the feesheet and marked as saved. I then clicked on Billing. The encountered appeared as it should have. I checked the box and Re-Open did not activate. So, now I see it is a procedural error.

Could you please tell me how to properly bill an encounter so it can be re-opened?

Thanks

Here’s what I did:

Created an encounter, added a cpt and diag to it, went to fees=>billing , selected the encounter generated an x12 file, left billing, went back into billing selected the encounter and clicked re-open. encounter was re-opened,

Ah-ha!

So the encounters were never billed (x12 or paper) in the first place & that’s why they won’t re-open.

Everything in life should be so easy.

Will file this away & will remember to ask: “Were the encounters billed?”; next time we have an uncooperative Re-open button.
