Dear all,
Has anyone tested the backup and restore options available with the AWS instances. If we create a volume and snapshots, would it save all the configurations and patient details or do we still have to use the openemr backup tools or CLI to back up and restore. I am using the Linux Ubuntu Server as a web application server. Any thought?!
You’ll want to make sure that in addition to the database, at least the openemr/sites/ directory is backed up periodically. Suggest you ask them and share the answer here. See:
Note that besides redundancy, historical backups are valuable in case of human error.
Also I think folks here would be interested to know what they might pay Amazon for BAA-compatible hosting, so would be nice if you are able to share that here also.
Thanks Rod!
However HIPPA does not apply to us as we are not in the USA so I am still wodering if anyone here at this forus has tried the backup and restore features on AWS and if there are any white papers or tutorials to show how it is done.
While skimming through, on page 11, there is a mention of choosing a backkup method. The residential backup tool in OE works well in Linux. It’s faster to use the GUI.
For recovery, Rod’s script, works well as described here. More efficient in this case to use the command line.
If you automate your backup, be certain to test your backup periodically. Very stressful to discover that the backups are useless during a crisis.
Ideally it would be optimal to have a second method of backup, such as system image creation. No posts about doing this with hosted copy.
I’ve noticed that with other hosts, backup & recovery are included in the monthly charge. For a price I would think that Amazon offers redundancy & other services.
