Are the install opememr files available for download, different for linux and windows?
Yes they are.
https://www.open-emr.org/wiki/index.php/OpenEMR_Downloads
has the packages and installation instructions for the officially supported versions for PC and Windows.
If you’re a Mac kinda guy it looks like you’ll have to install one or the other in a VM or in a docker environment; I don’t see instructions for mac. Though you’re welcome to do a search of the forum yourself to be sure.
Hi Htuck , what you say makes sense. But i installed “for windows” openemr on my fresh ubuntu linux droplet from digital ocean and it worked perfectly fine.
What i am thinking is php is independent of the operating system, it just needs an apache server and mysql / mariadb database server.
Hi @Robert_James
Interesting notion, that. I don’t know anything re: droplets or the deeper esoterica of php, just that in the OpenEMR downloads site they have windows downloads and linux downloads.
And that in the php download site they give the download in a file format that is not native Windows, and they give a separate link for a Windows download.
But I wouldn’t say that php is independent of the OS; instead that both OSes require php and a database server to run a webserver and OpenEMR.
I’m talking about an old- school standalone box with one OS on it. And a very brief look at the digital ocean cloud platform makes me think that it provides a compatibility layer or some sort of VM? so you can install anything on it, no matter what OS it was originally for.
