Do we have any nation notes documentation other than the “here is how to add Nation Notes to an LBF” on the open-emr wiki?
Is the code entirely the creation of ZHH, or is it based on another project? It doesn’t seem searchable except in the context of OpenEMR.
I have been asked to demonstrate the possibilities this represent, though I am not sure of it’s limitations.
From first glance, it seems that the size of the java fancybox that pops up is restrictive and not re-sizable (though the content itself has an overflow).
Mouse cursor position performance seems to be poor, making it hard to control. Sometimes, it seems that the fancybox wants to follow the mouse position all over the screen, and you can’t even get out of it to hit the X that closes the box.
The templates engine is not very intuitive, as the uses of user, category, and context are not explained in any way.
Any insight, documentation, or extended demos of something other than the SOAP note available?
The hope is that it can be used to template and allow nice printing of existing text document templates containing tables, check boxes etc… Apparently, you cannot copy and paste into it. It this also true?
Just trying to figure out if I can start taking some other route other than “real” php form creation.
This was all contributed by Z&H. They have a video tutorial (it’s not on the wiki, because they markedly modified/improved the mechanism to create a Nation Note form within the layouts/LBF stuff since making the video) that may give more examples on using it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbvhI4PqxCY
Art,
Yes, it is entirely our contribution from ZH Healthcare. It is a great feature that no one knows about; and it can replace the Camos system.
Here is a thought on how to make a better documentation. I can do a demo for you on gotomeeting which I can record and post for the benefit of users. You can make a list of questions and send it to me prior to the meeting. This way I can answer your questions, show how it works, and someone can make a documentation out of it at leisure.
Just been too busy with some implementations at our end.
Well, your existing video answered one vital missing piece, which was the NationNotes comment in the LBF configuration. That was the largest piece by far, and seemed to make everything else much easier to grasp. I think that you should update the Wiki at very least, because this is much nicer than camos in many ways. The only real factor is the java box size. and the issue where the SOAP format stuff exists in NationNotes, yet does not show in Layouts. I am not sure about how that interface works yet (though I am certain I can figure it out (if it is not a hard-coded thing). I suppose perhaps it was added with the sql update for 4.x?
Anywho, I guess if you think more tutorial material is appropriate, we can script a meeting so that our discussion is still a dialog, but is concise enough for a tutorial without extensive editing. I would rather understand the module, then have our question/answer meeting more ex post facto than completely extemporaneous. It is more likely that I will have MORE questions the more I learn!
I record my questions as they occur to me, as well as the steps I take in learning to use the module.

I really like a prepared tutorial once you are ready with the questions. I guess that is the only way things can be done quickly and precisely
Shameem
Thanks Shameem,
This is a very powerful and important addition to OpenEMR which will facilitate the doctor <-> patient interaction and documentation. At first blush, it looks as though it will be easier to use than CAMOS. I am already imagining the future including interfacing with prescribing, ordering imaging and labs, patient education, and maybe even a direct link to billing for the most common diagnoses & ICD, and most common CPT’s. My head spins!

At this point, I don’t expect it to perform anything but text functions. I do see that you can make tables, and I will experiment to see what capabilities it may have. It would be neat if you could paste in a functioning table and radio buttons and the like, but that probably must be done with the poorer-looking LBF stuff. It would be nice to be able to use nationnotes in custom forms to allow such things if that otherwise would be impossible. The four column restriction of LBF puts a crimp on using it for long laundry lists of selections in an evaluation type table. It also makes the form impossible to share unless you do a very clever sql import that properly increments the LBF table. Naturally, creating reports from anything in LBF data is quite difficult, so once again you may be back to custom forms.
All that said, any WYSIWYG tool is valuable, appreciated, and deserves all the enhancement, documentation, and promotion it can get. As Howard Hughes said: “It’s the Way of the Future”…and we have been in that future for a couple of decades now. Might as well catch up.
All that you asked for is already done by us in a single form. People can make their own forms in all those permutations.
Art,
You can include this in an LBF or a regular form as well.
Like I said if we can do that video we can show everyone how best to do this and what potential it has.
We are also trying to do a mail merge option like word where people can define the table.field name and make templates of letters and reports and when the click merge it populates the entire report. Very cool for one minute reports.
As I write up the questions that I have (and after Shameem’s post, there will be a LOT more…I’M EXCITED!) I will post them in the Users forum on OEMR.org along with a script attachment so we can keep them organized. I want to do as much as I can, as ZH probably does not need to be prioritizing something like this right now.
I suppose we should announce it here, and on OEMR. get a sign-up, and then see if Brady can broadcast a users announcement for the sourceforge users list to announce when/where any resulting tutorial gets posted.
I gotta clear my plate over the next couple of hours, but I’ll get the QA list posted so other folks can submit their questions ahead of time and we can integrate them appropriately.
