When we give vaccines, Humana Military is asking for NDC codes. How to enter NDC codes for vaccines? HCPCS has an option to enter NDC code, but not to ICD9 or CPT4.

Are vaccines not HCPCS codes? I didn’t think NDC applied to CPT4 or ICD9, but maybe I’m confused.

I am not a billing expert… from past 2 years we are sending vaccines as CPT4 codes. For example CPT4 90698 is Pentacel vaccine, CPT4 90670 is Prevnar… We don’t have any issue with any other insurance company including Medicaid, and private insurances. Now only Humana Military asking to provide NDC for vaccines.

OK, suggest you check with the payer to make sure they really want it in the CPT4 codes. If so, some small code changes will be required. I think scanning the PHP code for the string “HCPCS” will turn up the places of interest. Or hire a developer to do it for you.

Based on “Humana Military Healthcare Services” provider handbook, it looks like NDC codes needs to be specified in addition to HCPCS/CPT codes
Based on our understanding, we think that some changes at the HCFA paper claims is also required to support NDC codes .
