Has anybody come up with a useable work around for the “all or nothing” sort of effect that the current ACL scheme has?
What I mean by this, is that you basically have to set all the staff as a “Physician” , in the Access Controls for them to be able to perform their job functions. If the nurses & billing staff can’t see the patient notes, they can’t do their jobs, but if they’re set as a Physician, they have both View & Edit privilege to the documentation. On the other hand, if you bust them back down to “Clinician” or “Accounting”, they can’t see anything besides patient demographics & appointments, which makes it impossible for them to actually do any work. There needs to be an an in between level of access, where the nurses, billing staff, or clinical staff who answer phones & interact with patients, can view the patient information, but not edit it or create new encounters.
Any thoughts? Maybe this is something to be addressed in the future with OpenEMR 5?
