837 Ordering Provider "DK"

Situation
I have a provider that needs to send the Ordering provider on a service line. They entered the order provider using the misc billing options and it shows up saying “Box 17 Qualifier: Ordering” but it comes over on the claim as referring.

Being Box 17 confused me because ordering is a service line only option. I went to look at the class X125010837P

and I find on line 1511 that ordering provider is omitted.

I have trouble believing this is the only time an ordering provider has been needed. Is there something I’m not doing correct?

hi @brad, any use case for this segment has never been contributed afaik. If it’s supported in the hcfa it should be easy to add to the 5010. I’d be glad to take a peek for you.

I think the HCFA could take it in Box 17, but Oklahoma Medicaid has some weird rules. They want the City/State/Zip of the provider to be present in the loop too. In EDI the loop is 2420E and has a DK qualifier.
