2019 MIPS and MACRA

(Sherwin Gaddis) #1

Is anyone working on adding MIPs and Macros to the code base?

Usually, this is a visolve or ZH thing to do.

Just curious.

hi @juggernautsei, MIPS will be a priority for the 2015 CEHRT effort this year. What are Macros?

(Sherwin Gaddis) #3

Honestly @stephenwaite , I don’t know what Macros are. I am just repeating what the doctor said to me.

I did register with CMS trying to learn more about this MIPS. It always baffles me how the certs year dates are always in the past with CMS.

I found that CMS posted a series of videos on YouTube. That is where I saw the developers deal.

Here is the series for anyone looking for in depth information about MIPs.

I would venture to guess the doctor misspoke and the terminology is MACRA and not Macros: https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/Quality-Initiatives-Patient-Assessment-Instruments/Value-Based-Programs/MACRA-MIPS-and-APMs/MACRA-MIPS-and-APMs.html

Thanks you @adunsulag, that makes a lot more sense.
From what I read through quickly, it seems they are a part of the same program. Is that not true?

(Stephen Nielson) #6

@juggernautsei I believe they are but I’m still learning more about all of the various updates to the legal code. My understanding is that MACRA is the law that created the MIPS program. Most likely why we have the conflation of it with the vendors.

When I was first investigating EHR platforms I learned more about it from a forum post on the LibreHealth community. They link to some podcasts and additional resources on understanding MACRA and MIPS.

(Sherwin Gaddis) #7

@adunsulag can you site the pages where you saw the podcast information on Libre’s website?

(Stephen Waite) #8

hi @juggernautsei, thanks @adunsulag, @brady.miller was going to check with @visolveemr to see if they had guidance for the CQMs that need to be updated , openemr/export_qrda_xml.php at master · openemr/openemr · GitHub

this is hard-coded here and should be re-wired to update off of the appropriate value set from https://vsac.nlm.nih.gov/download/ecqm

Here is the link to the thread: https://forums.librehealth.io/t/meaningful-use-macra-and-mips/470

I think the two informative posts that are relevant on the thread are this link to the recording on MIPS for EHRs

The podcast link they reference in the thread is broken as it looks like it was moved. I found it through some google-fu here: https://radiologyleaders.podbean.com/e/macra-primer-the-nuts-and-bolts-of-what-you-need-to-know/
