So … windows 8 system refresh …
was used.
openemr files are in ( Windows old ) folder and I do not want to lose my 3000 patient files
can someone please give me some advice on reinstall of openemr
so I do not lose data

Do you have a second machine? A good thing to do would be to attempt to move the data from the old machine to the new machine before reinstalling the original.
Also Suggest that you make a mysql dump of the database and back that up in addition to copying the OpenEMR files.

no second machine now, for this recovery I think I’ll probably buy another office computer just to be safe
