Hello!

I had a patient change his primary and secondary insurances after the encounter has been billed. I am trying to bill the new primary, but it automatically selects “secondary” when I go into billing. When I change to a primary, the X12 file is still incorrect and lists the secondary insurance instead of the primary. I tried a lot of things, including changing the last level billed and the last level closed in the Form_encounter table, made sure that the new primary and secondary are the only ones in the system, but it still goes directly to secondary insurance under Billing. Where is this information stored? Why does it still know that I’ve already billed one primary insurance? Any help would be appreciated!

Alex,
Try changing the effective date on the new insurance to the date of the encounter you need to bill.  You may also need to delete and re-create the associated fee sheet.
