What should I develop for OpenEMR?

Hi,

I have been looking at OpenEMR for last couple of weeks, very impressed.

I want to develop something on OpenEMR. Please tell me what is a feature that is most required.

I want to build something opensource / free for use but at the same time it can help me pay the bills.

Some of the ideas I have been toying with:

A. IPAD native application with aggressive caching so that OpenEMR can be used when disconnected from internet.

B. Enabling voice input by tight integration with an external service like Nuance for healthcare. For e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jeCtHrUjx3w

C. Building drug interaction checker service. For e.g. http://www.drugs.com/interactions-check.php?drug_list=1690-2475,1013-565

D. Advanced search box like google. Type ahead and free text search.

E. Automated telephone reminder system.

Experience:

  • 5y of mobile development.
  • 15y of LAMP / AJAX / JQUERY / VOIP
  • 20y of linux.
  • Building free text search / Distributed apps using ZeroMQ

Thanks for your time,

Hi Vikas,

Welcome to the project.

Here’s a list of other potential projects, but feel free to work on any other project(s) such as above that interest you:

Good idea to discuss your ideas specifically on the forums so you don’t waste time on things (for example, another group is now working on a automated telephone reminder system)

Suggest getting a OpenEMR github repo going so can have others test and review your code:

Also, here is some developer docs on the wiki:
