Virtual Machine

I’m having problems with the public trackers, so I had to make a new torrent file using my own tracker. The tracker status page and the direct download link for the new torrent file are posted on the oemr.org wiki page at:

Hi
I’ve mucked around with your VM and added Care2x (2.1 and its Patches)  on to it.  The resulting tar is a bit bigger now 1.1GB Oh and I added OpenEMR CVS from about 2 Days ago.  I also updated SQL-Ledger to version 2.6.9.  Let me clean it up and figure out a way to get it to you.

Wow, The first OpenEMR appliance derivation. I don’t know much about care2x, definitely like to try/test it. Tell me when its ready, prob best to send via bittorrent.

Quick OpenEMR Virtual Machine update:

I finally got SourceForge to host it. Had to make a new SourceForge project, hopefully won’t cause any confusion.

Project page is at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/emr-appliance/
Download link is at:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=167832

More specifics can be found on wiki page at: http://www.oemr.org/modules/wiwimod/index.php?page=OpenEmrVirtualMachine

Brady,
I know my question has nothing to do with the appliance, but it has to do with the Mandriva VM and how you created it.
1. I did not see that SSHD was installed - very useful to login securely and remotely. Even when I installed it through the GUI, I was not able to find the SSH Daemon - any ideas?
2. I cannot connect to MySQL remotely - not sure how you installed it. I checked the /etc/my.cnf file to see if skip-networking was enabled - it was not. I just cannot seem to login remotely.
Any ideas?

Thanks a lot and as long as we stick to the forums here, it should avoid the confusion of the new SF project.
Amazingly awesome job with the "Install guide" PDF.

Solved - mysql problem
Uncomment "skip-networking" in /etc/sysconfig/mysqld
The options in /etc/sysconfig/mysqld override the /etc/my.cnf file

Brady,
Not sur eif your default VM has this permission issue. I had to fix this
chown -R apache /var/www/html/openemr/interface/main/calendar/modules/PostCalendar/pntemplates/cache
chown -R apache /var/www/html/openemr/interface/main/calendar/modules/PostCalendar/pntemplates/compiled

It manifest itself in Administration->Practice->Insurance Numbers - if the permissions are not write the page will be blank.

bradymiller wrote on Tuesday, June 06, 2006:

hey,

It works fine on the default VM.(see page 85 of PDF manual) You probably also want to ensure you changed following permission to ensure the uploading of docs works:
chown apache:apache -R /var/www/html/openemr/documents

I officially entered the appliance into the VMware contest(there are almost 200 entries!). Check out the OpenEMR Appliance entry page at:

The documents directory had the permissions ok. Somehow the otehrs did not, but if it is fine in the current VM that is all I care.
I love the VM concept for testing , disaster recovery and not being tied to a platform. I have used this VM across Windows, Linux on VMWare Server. Even though the current beta has a bug and cannot start the VM on boot.
If my box goes down, I can have a laptop with VMPlayer on and just restore the VM backup and I am off to the races.
Most doctor offices do not really think about Disaster Recovery (DR) (it is in their title Dr. - sorry the pun was obvious), but it is important and the VM can be a great way to accomplish that.
Great job brady .

Another permission to verify
chown -R apache /var/www/html/openemr/library/freeb/

I had to do this for writing of the billing.log file

bradymiller wrote on Thursday, June 08, 2006:

hey,
Permission is correct on default VM.(page 86 of pdf in FreeB install section) billing.log file writing works on the default VM.
How you end up resetting all these permissions(update to most current OpenEMR?)?

Yep, all this VM stuff is cool. There are some pretty incredible, small appliances in the contest. I was impressed by a tiny one called ‘APhPLIX Development Studio’.

My dog changed my permissions ;-).
I downloaded the very first versions you had on torrent. You may have made modifications since in the current version I guess.
I voted 5 stars on the contest. Hope you win !
Will check out APhPLIX

Very strange. I’ve only released one version.
I’m beginning to think your ‘virtual dog’ did change your permissions.
