V6 Documentation wish list

If someone adds this before we go through ONC certification I need to know in order to accommodate it via FHIR.

@adunsulag
When patient templated documents are populated in portal, they go to a review process in Portal Dashboard. In this case user will have to use normal data entry process to add to chart thus, the required entries for APIā€™sā€¦

I think I just found a tiny portal bug.
When I go to the patient portal on the Demo, Chrome tries to autofill the username/pwd fields.
If I hit the ā€œRegisterā€ without deleting those, it throws an error, instead of just ignoring them and going to ā€˜New Registration.ā€™

Thanks for your work on the ONC stuff!!
(even though itā€™s not relevant to me --Iā€™m not insurance based, no MCR/MCDā€“it is to many others.)

I believe that is a chrome bug because I believe I set a parameter for browser to ignore autofill in those forms however, Iā€™ll look into once in portal code. Also, check your chrome version to see how old the chrome engine isā€¦

Mhm, if we hit ā€˜Registerā€™, shouldnā€™t the form logic just ignore any entries in the username/pwd fields?
Can the form logic ignore such?

Nearly up to date! Relaunch Google Chrome to finish updating. Incognito windows wonā€™t reopen.

Version 92.0.4515.107 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Html doesnā€™t work that way however, this is an issue but, I know Iā€™ve tried to address in the past.
Iā€™ll look at again when some timeā€¦

FUHgeddabouddit! If thatā€™s not trivially easy, itā€™s absolutely not worth bothering with!!

@sjpadgett - I suspect a bug but may be a config error.
Am working in the demo https://eight.openemr.io/ , logged into the portal as Phil Belford, and into the OpenEMR as Billy Smith though not with each open simultaneously.
Iā€™m using Firefox 83 on Linux Mint 19.3.

In the Pt Portal, with the secure messaging, click ā€˜compose messageā€™ and get the compose screen.
The ā€˜Toā€™ dropdown isnā€™t populated.
sm01Bug (copy)

The Secure Chat does have a list of the portal- authorized staff, and I can send Secure Mail to that blank ā€˜Toā€™ recipient. But when I do, the sent mail is listed as going to ā€˜Unassignedā€™.
sm01bug2

Billy can send secure mail from the EMR to Phil in the portal and Phil can reply, as shown in msg 3 in the pic above.

Ideas? Am I missing something?
Thanks- HT

It just occurred to me that the answers to many of the questions asked in the forum are short little series of steps that are used in many different activities. For example, how to edit or create a list. That capability is used in LBFs, custom fee sheet codes (a VERY common use case), document templates, etc. But the instructions how to edit/ create a list are buried in the larger documents- and duplicated in each one- so itā€™s nearly impossible to search the wiki and locate them to just answer one question about how to make a list.

This is related to the remark above how so much documentation is posted to the forum that should be in the wiki. Seems it would be fairly easy to scan the forum posts and find such a brief set of instructions in somebodyā€™s answer to a question, run through it in one of the OpenEMR demos and document it for the wiki.

Tā€™would be a small entry and not very involved, and therefore a good way to learn mediawiki composition.
Just thinkingā€¦

@htuck
I changed recently where only users assigned to Portal in Users UI will show in pull downs for messaging although, Admin should be fall back so, maybe a bug. But if setup should be okay. Thanks for bringing up and sorry took so long to reply.

Hi @sjpadgett - thanks for your reply, even though it didnā€™t come minutes after I posted the question!

Well, dang, I guess this was my mistake-- Iā€™d assumed the providers had been assigned to the portal by default. But no, looked at physician Donna Leeā€™s user profile and she wasnā€™t, and neither is the admin. So I made her portal- authā€™ed and she shows up in the dropdown for Phil1 in the portalā€™s messaging.
My bad not to have checked that out!

Here are my initial nominations to the very good idea of a wishlist of v6 docs. Most all of them involve a minimum of new composition (though would be re-writing the steps in your own words) and would be a good way to learn mediawiki documentation. Just surf the forum for improvements that have been made to the functionality, run through it in one of the demos with sample data, and write yer doc!

An illustrated version of
https://www.open-emr.org/wiki/index.php/Adding_and_Removing_User_Permissions
Itā€™s from 2015 for OpenEMR 4.x and I bet has had some changes since then. It certainly looks different!
If one wanted to do some research and add even more value to the doc one could get specific about what capabilities each individual ACL provided. Thatā€™s a lot of repetitious work but would be incredibly valuable-- one could get famous for writing that!

Charges panel
https://www.open-emr.org/wiki/index.php/Charges_Panel
Again, from 2015 for v 4x and not illustrated.

In the Charges Panelā€™s ā€˜Setupā€™ section it mentions manually adding codes. This is the doc for v4.2.x that contains, in the section, '5. Fill the categories with their codes '.
https://www.open-emr.org/wiki/index.php/OpenEMR_4.2.0_Fee_Sheet_Custom_Service_Categories
which REALLY needs updating for v6.

Or, if one were into video creation, for a minimum of written composition and mediawiki markup (can basically copy the code that is there), re-do the videos in
https://www.open-emr.org/wiki/index.php/Videos_and_Animations
which are almost 10 years out of date.

Re-do the New Clinic Startup for v6; current docs are for v4.x and different features have been added.
https://www.open-emr.org/wiki/index.php/New_Clinic_OpenEMR_Setup_4.1.3

Many new capabilities have been added in v6+
https://www.open-emr.org/wiki/index.php/New_Encounters_%26_Coding_4.1#Using_the_Fee_Sheet

Several new features

Knock 'em dead!

Yes, my goal is to work on a video at some point.
My concern is that, since OpenEMR developement is so quick, that before I get started on v6, we will be at v7, ha ha

Hi @gutiersa - yes it is a rapidly evolving creature, isnā€™t it? Almost seems like a snake shedding its skin every year. But generally, the devs tend to only make major changes in a few areas at one time.

For e.g., the interface got a big change between OpenEMR v3 and v5; v4 was nearly the same as v3. V6 is nearly the same as v5 so I anticipate it holding still for a while. In between the interface changes they just add features which tend to stabilize for a long time after theyā€™re upgraded. Jerry recently did a surge of work on the Portal, then he left it (or tried to  ) to go to another project. Nowā€™s the time to doc the portal.

So taken as a whole, the EMR itself does change rapidly, but looked at by modules or functionality only a couple of the user- facing ones change at a time. That tendency would be handy for your video production efforts. If you do a ā€˜getting aroundā€™ vid how to navigate v6 you wouldnā€™t have to upgrade it until v7 or whenever the next major interface upgrade hits.

So take heart- just pick a feature thatā€™s grown since v4 and go to it!

And Iā€™m always happy to advise on anything wiki that I know about.
Best-
