Using OpenEMR for Optical Hospital

Hello All,

Like I said before, I want to use OpenEMR for our Optical Hospital. My questions are thus:

  1. How do I enter New Patients since it is an optical Hospital.
  2. How do I configure codes for optical ailment if there are already configured codes, where are they located. If not do I need the already existing ones so as to reduce the codes found in OpenEMR.
  3. How do I generate bills for patients.
  4. How do I say the test carried out and how do I insert the sketches/drawings made by an ophthalmologist.

Kindly help out.

thanks.

Thanks for your reply fsgl.
In another words I can create my own list of services and diagnosis in OpenEMR alongside my own codes.

How do I create options to enter optical surgery into openemr.

thanks for your continued support.

popsie.

You can certainly create your own codes. In the U.S. insurance companies will only accept standardized codes for claim payments. Any codes that we create are solely for internal use.

Ophthalmic surgical procedures are handled with the appropriate CPT codes; i.e., 66984 is used for Intracapsular Cataract Extraction, along with the modifiers for which eye.

Link B, cited above, will tell you how to import the entire code set, which first must be purchased from the AMA.

If there are only a small group of surgical codes that are required by staff, these codes can be researched online & entered manually. We went the manual route because we did not need the entire data set.

With the exception of the CPT code set, the other data sets are free to download from the respective websites.
