User feedback on demographics entry

To the designer of the new look of the Demographics (more) page:

My wife was working at the front desk this morning.  She is used to the older interface.  I went live today with the most recent code from cvs.  Everything went smoothly, but she had a complaint about the Demographics (more) page where the user enters the patient’s demographics.  When she clicked ‘Save Patient Demographics’, a dialog came up saying ‘Please choose a value for Provider’.  She then had to click on a check box labeled ‘Choices’ which caused another form to appear with the provider option.  It took some searching around to figure this out.

The idea of hiding parts of the demographics form like this is good, but any required information should not be hidden.  Does ‘provider’ have to be required information?

Also, checkboxes may not be the best choice here.  A small graphic of a circle with an arrow where the arrow goes from pointing to the right to pointing down when the form appears would be good.

Take a look at the new Admin/Layouts page.  You can control where - and if - the various fields appear in the demographics page, and which of those are required or optional.  Also see Admin/Lists where you can customize many of the drop-down lists.  Sorry for the lack of documentation so far, but it is after all brand new in CVS.

Provider was set as required by default because it’s used in billing as the referring physician.  But of course you can make it optional, or eliminate it completely, if you think that will work for you.

That’s a good idea about replacing the checkboxes.  How are you at making graphic images?

Now that I have phpGACL installed and working, I can respond.

I see how to do it now, thanks!

I would be happy to play around drawing the arrow images.
