We are using “Messages” to communicate amongst the staff in the office. These messages become a part of the “Patient Notes.” It would be helpful to have a link from the “Messages” screen to the patients chart. So that we can click the link and quickly open the patients chart for review.
Another helpful function would be able to “close” a note from “Messages.” You can click on “Done,” within “Messages” and that removes it from “Messages” but it is still active in “Patient Notes,” so you have to go to the patient chart then “notes” and “close” the note from the chart. By allowing the function of “close” from the “Messages” you can be finished without the extra work.
If I am doing this wrong, or making more work for myself than I should, please let me know. My staff and I have gone from a proprietary system to OpenEMR. We are learning everyday the strengths and weaknesses of the program. We love it, and appreciate the dedication of the OpenEMR team. I hope that my input as a practicing provider will help improve OpenEMR.
Ahoy Nurse Jeff,
I have thought for years that we should be able to open the patient record from a message with a single click. Seems pretty obvious and should be popular (present in every commercial system I have seen), so I’m not sure why the feature hasn’t been added yet. I think this should bypass the feature request list and just “git-er-done”.

Regarding the link, agree would be nice to have. If a developer doesn’t take this on and if not on the feature request tracker, suggest placing this there.
This seems to be one of the lesser used features in the community. Regardless, one of the changes we have used for last few months pertains to the message/patient note retaining original sender as ‘from’. Would there be any interest in incorporating simple change to replace original sender by last sender every time a note is updated?
One addition that would be useful if for a sender of a message to be able to see a list of messages he/she has sent out and to whom. At present, the user only gets a list of messages sent to him/her except in the Reminders section of Messages where he/she can see messages that require action.
