Run OEMR off hosted server

I think OEMR is great and has lots of great features. Is anyone running this successfully off a hosted web server (Go Daddy, Dreamhost, FatCow etc)?  I managed to set up on my hosted server and it looks like it is working.  Is it recommended to be set up with https?  Would having htaccess also be a good idea for better protection?  It seams like it would solve many IT problems, automatic back ups, loss of hard drive etc.  My only concern is if the servers automatically upgrade to php 6, will that effect the application?

Hi,

OpenEMR glues finely in the shared Hosted Environment and we have expiremented it too. Secured Https is not mandatory but it is recommended. You can easily configure https with OpenEMR and in hosted model you may need to depend on the hoster.

I suppose, hosted environment will not upgrade immediately at the release of php6. surely it will wait for some stable releases.  Within the time, the community will helpout with the solution, if there are any deprecated functions used in the code.

Hi jjcanales,

Its Highly recommended to run OpenEMR in https especially in a shared environment. Some hosting provider’s dont allow full ssl support and ports open which is required for enjoying all features. We recommend you to choose for some VPS services. Where there is no fear of Hosting platform upgrade issues or you can choose some hosted services that provide OpenEMR Hosting support, Good uptime, Reliability, Backup etc.

Another tip: You can ask your hosting providers whether they support **shared ** ssl and configure for that which is cost effective.
