Retrieve data from OpenEMR

Hi, I am new to Open Maxim

I have gone through the wikis and can see how this can be setup but have a query around the API

Is there a API to retrieve data? e.g. from third party applications who want to pull the data from OpenEMR? I would like to avoid quertying the database directly
