Hello ,
my issue is the windows 8 refresh system was used and all my programs needed to be reinstalled
Open EMR has had a year of patient entries in our database and I am afraid reinstalling will start me at 0
can somone help me take the right steps to make sure the reinstallation is sucessful.

If System Refresh is anything like the old System Restore, then it’s not the best tool to fix incompatibilites & corrrupt files. See this for a more sophisticated explanation.

Since you’ve already run System Refresh, not too much you can do about it now. I remember reverting System Restore never worked.

Why do you need to reinstall other applications because the whole point of Refresh/Restore is to avoid all this extra work?

Would suggest that you do the following to save your production copy of OpenEMR:

  1. backup as explained here.
  2. backup via Admininstration/Backup (for redundancy).
  3. restore backup from 1 to another Windows machine (perhaps one at home) to check that everything is present & accounted for.

Restore from the second backup is a bit more complex, but you certainly can do it if you follow the directions carefully. Not necessary to restore from emr_backup.tar if recovery of CVerk’s backup went well.

Instead of System Refresh or even creating a system image from Windows, would suggest this. Restoring a Macrium system image takes less time than for CVerk’s backup.

Thank you I am a novice but capable of handling this, I just take a little longer.
Windows refresh was used unintentionally, I have worked out most of our issues since using it.
I will go over these steps and report back on my progress
thank you again I love open emr and this community

You’re welcome.
