Registered users

I have hijacked this over to a new thread. and cross posted on oemr.org forum.

[Quote={Brady}}Although not relevant to the 4.1 release, regarding registration:
There are about 100-130 downloads a day, which will mostly just be people trying out the software. Forcing user information before download will likely have a negative impact on the downloads, will require an infrastructure to be built to do this, and will likely collect a lot of noise (ie. lots of users whom download/test but do not use in practice). Wouldn’t a online registration form offered after installation of OpenEMR make more sense, which could then discuss the oemr membership stuff also?"

In summary:  we have had suggestions for registration of users at the time of download and Brady’s suggestion above.  We are hearing that we should not be obtrusive and discourage downloads and at the same time we would like to have an idea of usership beyond the download statistics for use in grant writing, etc.

Then there is the separate and closely related issue of oemr.org membership, which could help keep our community informed, involved, and help guide the project and the supporting 501c3 in a quasi democratic fashion.

Thoughts?

I think we could just add a step to the setup process that would open web page asking for minimal registration info most of which would be optional (including contact/email info), but would have some questions like "Are you 1) Evaluating, 2) Using Live, 3) Supporting for 3rd party …  and some blurb about contributing to the project both directly (SF) and via membership support OEMR.org with links to create SF/OEMR accounts and donations.

How would this effect those of us who use the automated installer script?

All of the places i instal openemr have internet access, so i could just supply command line arguments or edit the script with a script…

Hi,

Since lots of installations skip the setup process, rec considering the following:

1) Create a registration page on oemr.org that OpenEMR users can be directed to that allows registration of users and also attempts to enroll in OEMR organization.

2) On top of the Online Support button make a REGISTER NOW button. This button is a magic button that does the following:
a: When clicked it opens up a new browser window to the online registration page.
b: When clicked it sends a insert into a table (ie. register) with a version identification (ie. 4.1.0) via a one-way ajax call
c: When clicked the REGISTER NOW button disappears
d: The REGISTER NOW button does not appear if there is a entry in the registry table the matches the current version
e: There should also be a optional feature in the automated installer script that will fill the registry table in order to not show the REGISTRY BUTTON (ie. demos, large scale multi-installations will not want this button).

So, in effect, this will create an obvious button within OpenEMR that will take users to a registration screen, which then disappears after clicking (and will not re-appear until the OpenEMR version is upgraded.
