I have always wondered why the drugs and products (Inventory) module is not part of the basic default package and has to be enabled in Globals after install.
My view is that it be enabled by default. It is a very useful, well done with nice interface and it is unfair for anyone not to use it just because they do not know it exists. Not clear in my mind yet how it will integrate with e-prescribing.
Been poking around and it appears this module is not well integrated with the billing module.
Issues:
1. If “Inventory and sell drugs only” is selected in globals, Drugs do not show on fee sheet and amounts have to be entered manually during dispensing of the drug despite all the information having been entered per prescription template in inventory management. This amount appears on the patient summary page if billing widget (another thing I believe should be enabled by default) is enabled. However, this products are not reflected in balance on the invoice search page nor in Fees> Payments during distribution. The product codes are not reflected together with other services when the relevant invoice is opened via Billing>EOBs.
2. If “Inventory and Sell both drugs and non-drug products” is selected, the prescription templates appear nicely on the fee sheet, the transaction under products. If coded using fee sheet, the product and amount appears correctly on the relevant invoice in EOBs. However, this transaction is not reflected on the Fees>Payments page for distribution nor in balance on the invoice search page (only to show up when this invoice is opened) Billing widget on patient summary page displays balance correctly all along.
