Problem detected

In seeking to follow the wiki article Windows Backup And Restore Made Easy my son created a backup with a flash drive on my Laptop running Windows 7.The resulting XAMPP control panel has RED ink.
Q: where to from here ?
Thanks,
Scott

If restored to laptop, see step 3 of this.

If working only with flash drive, see step 4 of above link.

Stop Xampp in time and Start Xampp after everything. It should work. Or do a restart of your computer.

cmswest wrote on Sunday, November 23, 2014:

the xampp panel is stating that filezilla has a problem and this will have no impact on openemr, if you use filezilla for other purposes then you will want to follow the xampp recommendations

now that you’ve created a backup, hopefully to an encrypted flash drive, you should try to import this on a test system for validation

A professional installed OpenEMR for the OP.

OP had expressed trepidation about doing the backup in another thread, hence progeny came to the rescue.

Given that history, not likely that Scott would be tinkering with Filezilla intentionally. XAMPP Control Panel throws off bizzare error messages occasionally.

Thanks to all for response. Am reviewing in presence of progeny. We desire function of course, but desire education as well… learn something everyday if not careful!
Please elaborate about the start stop directive. Also, shall we continue with an effort to load the backup version to another computer as indicated? Perhaps some hand holding may be averted if directed to remedial resources (?) Thanks

Give us an idea of what you are doing presently & what you wish to accomplish.

This exercise started with our effort to process an encounter as a prototype to see if the program is navigable for us. To that end, we sought to load some cpt4 codes. It was appropriately suggested that we backup our efforts, (especially forms thus worked on).
On completion of this task, I understand that fsgl will guide us with the cpt4 pursuit.
In executing the backup we have encountered the problem language referred to above. The help helpers have suggested testing validity of backup by loading on another computer.
Q : Is this the next appropriate step ( as backup will be a part of life if we throw over our present software and embrace Open EMR )?
Scott

OK, memory has been refreshed.

Backup is only as good as the recovery. To test the fidelity of the backup on the flash drive requires minimal effort. It is not necessary to restore on another computer to ascertain the quality of the backup. Just do it from the thumb drive.

  1. Insert flash drive into another computer, to avoid confusion with the copy of OpenEMR installed on the laptop.
  2. Go to Windows Explorer & double click the flash drive.
  3. Go to the xampp folder, then to the bottom.
  4. Go to XAMPP Control Panel, click Start for Apache, then for MySql. If numbers appear under PID(s) & Port(s), then you’re good to go. See attachment 1.
  5. Exit XAMPP Control & login to OpenEMR contained on the flash drive.
  6. If unable to login, go to XAMPP Start, which would turn on Apache/MySql without further action from you.

After you are satisfied everything was copied correctly, we can return to the business of importing CPT codes.

Thanks for the response. I sought to execute 6 steps (above). I got to step 4 on a computer without XAMPP on the root drive. Is this requisite? I needed windows 7 to get this far…tried another computer with XP os…no go.
Will try the flash drive on a computer with a) windows 7, AND b) openEMR loaded (by my trusty IT guy). Am open to other suggestions if this fails.
Thanks again,
Scott

Here is an additional item from the most recent effort on this machine that has open EMR installed. When inserting the flash drive with backup from the laptop, the attached result presented.
Thanks,
Scott

Your Notification Area says that 2 XAMPP Control Panels have been opened. The error message is telling you that you cannot run 2 Apaches in the same ports.

Rather than messing up the already installed OpenEMR, plug the flash drive into a computer without OpenEMR & try step 6.

Just got done testing backup on thumb drive in XP.

Worked fine with XAMPP Start & XAMPP Stop.

These are executable files which can be blocked by anti-virus. If that is the case, turn off anti-virus temporarily.

I first sought to plug into a machine without Open EMR. See Copy of prior note:

Would then suggest your local IT support walk you through this via LogMeIn/Remote Assistance.

cmswest wrote on Wednesday, November 26, 2014:

this is probably overkill for what you are up to however it is a good dive into switching to a production install of openemr, see this

it seems you’ve only played with the codes table which you could back up from phpmyadmin under admin->other->database

ideally you want to have a test machine with the openemr code base installed and import the freshly created backup to ensure security

if feasible, switch that xp to linux and present progeny with a nice weekend project

Hi, this is the progeny. We have confirmed the restoration integrity of XAMPP control on a non-OpenEMR computer.

Old Dad is pleased progeny is moderately favorable to parental elation.
Onward to manual loading of a few cpt codes…Yes?
Much obliged,

Just another option to consider:
If you just want to do lot of testing for learning or evaluation, you should seriously consider How to Save Time by Using Snapshots in VirtualBox. It will save you lot of manual effort.

When you are ready to start using system, you may want to go through the backup & restore cycle.
