Patient Clinical Summary

How are patient clinical summaries generated as required for meaningful use? I see ways to generate reports of a patient visit with various items, but not for the items required for the patient clinical summary-is that done elsewhere in the program. I would want to have the required portions included without all the details of the exam.

As I got no responses, I’ll enter what I’ve been doing this week in case either anyone has any other input or if this helps anyone else searching.

I have created a layout which includes three text boxes. (I’m more into free text but I’m a check box system might be developed in certain cases). The boxes include a summary, where I could put a mini version of the progress note without giving patients my entire note, test results, and a box for instructions. I’m also printing items available from the report menu such as problems, medications, vaccines, and vitals.

I’m finding it to be pretty overwhelming to have all this information ready the first time I use OpenEMR with a patient. If someone is only on a few meds I’ll type them in. I’m using an ePrescribing program which I’ve used long before starting with OpenEMR (Dr.First). If I don’t have the meds in OpenEMR yet, I’m printing a med list from Dr.First and appending it to the OpenEMR report.
