OpenEMR Conf Call-Suggested Item-Demographics

cipher-naught wrote on Monday, July 30, 2012:

For tomorrow’s meeting I would like to propose discussing the User Interface/Layout Issues discussed here:
Demographics Improvement, User Interface.

This mainly how to update the layout system to work with multiple tables as the current design only supports a single table.

Thanks and looking forward to it.  See/Hear you there.

I don’t think these calls are suitable for getting into technical details.  We have the Developers forum, tracker and github for that.  But if you want to discuss very general concepts or how we’ll work together, that’s of course fine with me.

Hi,
These calls should be open for anything, including technical discussions.

I’ll just speak for myself then.  I’m not willing to participate in a great level of technical detail in a conference call.  I need the opportunity to read, research, think and then respond.

I agree that we can’t get into a code review or other low level technical detail on these calls, but I think we can review the high level of what can we do to address this or that concern.

I feel the back and forth that a call provides can help to narrow down solutions much faster and more accurately.

Chris,
The thread has a number of good ideas that have been discussed so far.  I think sending out a written summary or outline of what direction you are considering would give us something to base the conversation on the call tomorrow. I recently had a similar situation that you find yourself in, with the ICD 10 stuff, and the call was helpful. The big difference was that the code I was dealing with was very isolated, whereas your proposed changes might be fairly extensive. I started a very general set of backlog items yesterday on the openEMR pivotal tracker to try and get a handle on where this is going. Hope to be on the call tomorrow.

There has been a lot already presented in writing.  See the extensive postings I made in “Demographic Improvements, New Contact System” and “Demographic Improvements, User Interface”.  As you see, I bitch but in the end always comply ;).  The following is an outline for the agenda.

I would like the discussion to focus on the user interface for the demographic improvements.

(1)  Do we stay with the current layout display & customization engine, or try to replace it with another one.

(2)  If we do replace it, what ideas do we and others have for doing this, while maintaining the same functionality.

(3)  If we don’t replace it and go with just modifying the current layout & customization engine, we would like feedback on the 7 changes outlined in the thread “Demographic Improvements, User Interface”.

Side Discussion
(1)  How to deal with first & last names in my proposed model.
(HOWEVER, please do not spend much time on this.  The layout is more important.  Project can’t start until layout engine is determined/modified.  First & last name database design can be addressed later, after the layout engine is programmed.)
