Openemr-app Android OpenEMR client

gutiersa wrote on Sunday, January 22, 2012:

yes works nice now in all directions.

I am trying to learn to use it. But so far:

Occasionally when I try to enlarge the screen I hit the home button by accident. If I click on the openemr icon it goes back to that initial page:

“Thank you for installing the openemr-app ….”

Hitting the back button does take me back to where I left off, but it took me a while to figure that one out.

When would I want to go to the left nav page? When I click on this button I see the left nav page, but the buttons pertaining to the active patient are not enabled, and clicking a button such as “billing” or “visit history” does nothing.
I cannot get back to my prev screen except by clicking “home page” button, and here there seems to be no active patient.
Clicking the “visit history” button brings me back to the active patient visit history page, (no left navigation pane of course) Hence, if I want to see the main screen and show the active patient with patient-buttons enabled in the left pane I have to click the main screen and re-search for the patient.

button size:
In my phone the buttons are a nice size: 30mm x 7mm (landscape orientation). however, the names/letters are too tiny for me to read: <1mm height and width per letter. I wish they were bold, and accomodated to the size of the button (depending on screen orientation)

I will use it more during the week

Thanks Sandra

BTW

It would be nice if when i go to phone screen, or phone/pad desktop I could see openemr as active in the notification pane at the top. Because I would be able to access it from anywhere without having to find the icon.
For example, if I had to send a text: once finished from there I could bring down the notification bar and click openemr to go back to the program.

Wow thanks for giving me plenty to do Sandra I’ll start going through these issue’s over the next day or so and see what I can get sorted out.

At this point in the project It would be of great help if any one has any additional bugs or issues if they could post them on our currently empty issue tracker herehttp://code.google.com/p/openemr-app/issues/list

I’m going to start using it so I can give things priority and plan ahead a little.

Sandra,
Have you tried changing the layout much in the Preferences?    The Left Nav doesn’t work at all right now mainly because it still utilizes the frame layout.  ie. when you click a button on there, its trying to target a frame that doesn’t exist.  It is still in the list because I’m not sure how the OpenEMR server devs are going to handle the frames issue, from what I understand its still under debate.  Until they ditch frames, I’m leaving it in there in case someone makes it work.

It was our hope that with a sufficiently customized layout, the user could comfortably perform a few routine tasks without needing the left-nav.

Until they’ve figured out whats going to happen re: the frames, I’m not sure how else to work around the frame issue.  If you can, try to identify what workflows can be accomplished with a customized layout, and what gets hung up with frame issues.

Considering how much better OpenEMR is already beginning to look as the devs try to accommodate our app , I’m sure something will happen fairly soon.

Our initial idea was to break the page up and have frames sliding out from each side, but that proved to be much more difficult than we anticipated… we abandoned that idea in favor of this layout, w/ the button grid, etc.

I will look into the button font-sizes problem.  Thanks again for the feedback, and we look forward to more of the same.

I see. Ok I will customize the buttons. I will use it at work at my next office session. Will post back thanks

Ahoy cybercod.
I am an android noob.  Can you put some installation instructions on the wiki, your project home page, or both (or point me to a page if I am missing something)?  Thanks for this very useful contribution.

Currently until we get this ready for the android market, you need to enable unknown sources in your application settings on your device(if you can, just hitting that link in your devices web browser will work) if your device does not have that option, you can possibly install over usb using the android debug bridge which is command line and somewhat a pain to work with if your unfamiliar with that sort of thing.  We’ll work on getting more detailed instructions up on a wiki-page soon.

Once the app is mostly done, we will be putting it on the Android Market.   We will then start work on creating a Patient Portal app, which should be a lot simpler.

bradymiller wrote on Monday, January 23, 2012:

Hi,
The patient portal app will be very easy for you since it is only has one screen and no frames (although the CCR/CCD reporting may be an issue since use a popup)

Well, the thought was to make customized Patient Portal apps with server settings and logos all set up for a specific hospital or group… For a modest fee, of course.  We’re not greedy, but we do enjoy eating from time to time. :-)

All the user would need is their login info, provided by the health provider.

cybercod wrote on Monday, January 23, 2012:

To clarify, the fee would be for development, the applet would be free to end users.  That was the thought anyway.

Thoughts?

it interferes with typing note.

overlaps the soap note ( or whichever note u write) in the default size. when enlarged it moves to the top.
it interferes with typing note.

when entering date the note does not scroll up as you type. such that as i type, the cursor gets hidden, I cannot see what i am writing unless I remove the virtual qwerty. but if i try to type, qwerty comes up, but covers up the location of cursor. can’t see where or what i am typing

Sandra,

When you move around the page, are you seeing zoom controls on the screen in the lower right corner?  If so, they may allow you to see more of the page as you type.

I never encountered the document function, so have not tested it at all…. how do you access it?

gutiersa wrote on Monday, January 23, 2012:

the zoom buttons do not seem to work (or seem to freeze) when I try to type in a note. I remember trying to use them, and trying with my fingers as well
the documents is when i go to the document section of the patient chart, and cklick on some pdf lab report or study. (the ones we scan and then upload into patient chart.

I have noticed that  some websites have that pdf download option. When u click the pdf u wanna download I can see a down arrow in the notification bar. The downloaded file then goes to a downloads folder in the android root folder.
If you click on it from the notifications bar it opens it for you.
Not automatic though, I think I had to install a pdf viewer. (not sure)

I suggest that you spend some time looking at the video tutorials so you can see the application in action
