OpenEMR 3.0?

drbowen wrote on Wednesday, February 11, 2009:

Yes.  It has been six months since our last release.  It is now time to start wrapping up details and push out our next release.

In the last six months, We, (the project) have successfully incorporated practice management, e-prescribing, GACL all into the same release.  The use of Jude Pierre’s e-prescribing model also provides a stable way of doing drug - drug interaction checking.  I would argue that we have had sufficient recent improvements that warrant upping the release number to “3.0”.

Joe Holzman and I are are wrapping up a OpenEMR Windows release and I for one would like to include the gacl improvements being worked on by Brady Miller at this time.

Dr. Bowen,

Is there a list of milestones that have been reached for OpenEMR? It would be good to have a list of features to advertise in a v3.0 release.

I will use this message to start a wish list for 3.0:

Duplicate patient entries are very common errors.
I hope the new version will have some java script to do auto-complete while entering new patient’s name and also red flag to warn about similar names already stored in data base.
Thanks

the billing module, ledger module?? and acl are included in the current release and the visitors should not be confused or scared by so many install routines.

i would consider cleaning out the documentation that is currently available on web as well as packaged in the download.

i would also consider separate releases for windows/Linux/ other environment. features availability and differences in each release should be clearly defined. this will allow users to choose the environment comfortable to them and may help in tracking the users preference by downloads and allocating development resources appropriately.

thanks

hey,

Let us know before making the release.  I’ve still got a couple minor phpgacl changes.  Also, have a couple bugs in the revamped openemr setup.php script to figure out (script works in linux but a couple issues to deal with in windows).

I’ve been working on some changes with regards to multiple facilities on the calendar (providers on more than one schedule, users optionally restricted to a certain facility) that I would like to contribute.  What is the timeframe for a 3.0 release?

drbowen wrote on Thursday, February 12, 2009:

A call for a new release is not a place to start a request list.  Start a separate thread for this.

This means fix what you are working on and try not to add new features.

We need to include the phpgacl changes.

It will be nice to include Himmelstoss’ calender fixes.

Anoj, you Joe Holzer and I ARE the Windows release guys.  I want a stable release so that we have a stable package to release as the Windows version.  They are not “separate” releases.  Some of Joe Holzer’s typos need to be included in 3.0 as long as they don’t break existing code.

Brady, are you able to incorporate the typos and fixes recommended by Joe Holzer?

Rod, what are you working on and how far out are you time wise?

I seem to be perpetually doing changes for clients, but most of them are small at this point.  Let’s plan a 3.0.0 release in about two weeks, after some more testing and fixing of recent major changes such as the phpgacl integration?

Bill: You can forward your changes to me (rod at sunsetsystems dot com).  Unless they are minor, we’ll probably want to defer them for a subsequent release.

2.9.0 did not have sql-ledger integrated (i think). does 3.0 has this integrated?

joe-- i think you were working with 2.9.1dev so far. have you tried the latest CVS and does it work on your windows install?

loaded 3.0 rc1 on my XP laptop. it is version 2.9.03. install was a breeze. most directions were clear. please optimise the directions where it talk about changing php.ini. i would have loved to know where that file resides rather than looking thru all my xampp folders.

i also figuered out how to use perl scripts to load codes, fees ect in XP. will post directions if needed.

cheers.

Sorry,

I haven’t changed the release designation on the login screen yet.  What you downloaded is the 3.0-rc1.

In xampp, they, the developers of xampp,  change the local of the php.ini from time to time.  Xampp also has a few different files called php.ini.  The location of the xampp php.ini varies depending on which version you have.    So it is a bit confusing for me also, and unfortunately, the location of php.ini is also not under our control.

hey,
Just committed changes to CVS to show where the php.ini file.  It will only show up if users are using php version 5.2.4 or higher, otherwise they will get a link to the INSTALL text file with some general suggestions for finding the file.

Could you please post directions as to how you got the code utilities to work in Windows XP.  I for one would be interested in seeing how you did it.

Thanks

i used activeperl http://www.activestate.com/activeperl/ in default directory install.
it has all the modules needed for various scripts used in OpenEMR.

make sure apache2 and mysql are running before running perl script.

please post back your experiance.

Shouldn’t we rename:

2_9_0-to-2_9_1_upgrade.sql

to:

2_9_0-to-3_0_0_upgrade.sql

Since there will not be a version 2.9.1?

I don’t know if anyone else has the same problem.  When I tried to update from version 2_8_2 to 2_9_1, there were several missing data tables and fields from 2_8_2_-to-2_8_3_upgrade.sql and also in 2_8_3-to-2_9_0_upgrade.sql.  Several missing data fields preventing program to run calendar, and saving patients and users data.  I ended up having to enter them manually.
