OpenEMR-2.8.4 Upgrade Preparation

We have been using OpenEMR-2.8.3 in production since last February without the billing feature. I planned on waiting for the release of 2.8.4 to integrate our billing.  In the interim we have been maintaining a MS Access Billing System ( EZ-Claim) for our billing needs.

1.)  Should I install SQL Ledger prior to upgrading to OpenEMR-2.8.4?

2.)  Which version of SQL Ledger is recommended for use with OpenEMR-2.8.4?

Regards.

Probably easier to install SL as part of the upgrade, but doesn’t really matter.  Be aware that you’ll need to do a save on all your patients and practitioners after installing SL, so that the “integration mapping” table entries will be created.

I’ve been installing SL 2.6.27 for my clients.  There is also support for 2.8.x which may work fine, but I don’t think that’s tested as much.  Maybe someone else can comment on that.

Rod,

1.  Can you clarify what you mean by "a save on all your patients and practitioners"? Is that a MySQL database function or a SQL Ledger function?

2.  Is there documentation for what to do if OpenEMR has been in use prior to installing SQL Ledger and what should be done for a smooth integration?

Thanks.

(1) means going into each patient’s demographics form and saving it again.  Same thing for practitioners.  Alternatively the front desk could be trained to update the patients on their next visit.  The point is that the relevant SQL-Ledger items are created when patients and users are saved.

(2) is pretty much the same as (1).

Hope this helps…

Thanks Rod.  That was very helpful.  Now I see why SQL Ledger should be installed right from the beginning.
