The new patient search/select page has direct support for this. In the navigation area it’s “Patients” under “Patient/Client”. Just make sure the “Open in New Window” checkbox is checked when clicking on the desired patient, and you get a new top-level window (or browser tab).
Aside from that, you can open a new window and do a fresh OpenEMR login in it, and go from there.
Beware that support for multiple main windows is not thoroughly tested. If you find a case where they interfere with each other, let us know the details to reproduce it.
