I believe that you can find basic instructions at the oemr.org web site and also inside the 2.9 tarball too. Mostly it’s just updates to the database schema. Of course you’ll need to make sure your config files are set up correctly too.

thanks jason, i’ve looked at both and noticed on the oemr.org website the upgrade instructions are for upgrade from 2.7.1 to 2.8.1, does anyone know if anything has changed for the steps from then till now?  I looked at the install instructions in the tarball for openemr 2.9 and the instructions are brief, I just want to be careful to make sure i have everything backed up sufficiently before proceeding with the upgrade as I’ve been reading on the forums about others who have had issues with the upgrading and I’m trying to proceed with caution.  Any advice or suggestions?

If you’re comfortable with the command line you can very carefully upgrade the database first and then upgrade the software. In fact, I’m running an odd hybrid of the v2.9.1 database and the v2.8.4 dev software. Yeah, it sounds messy but it’s very stable.

Look into the <openemr>/sql directory and you’ll see a handful of scripts to upgrade the database from version X to version Y. Proceed in order and you should be OK.

Then keep your old software installed, it ought to still work fine, and install v2.9 in a new directory. Then make the changes to the config files in the v2.9 directory. Finally, cut over from v2.8 to v2.9 but keep the old software around.

Hi… I’m starting to train with Open EMR 2.9 Demo following the steps from Manual in order to learn the basic billing and all the rest… but I have a problem in the Billing Report Section: when I try to make charges for a patient there’s some buttons missing in my Demo screen…

For example: in Manual there’s a Menu with 7 options (View Printable Report - SQL Ledger - Reports - EOBs - Start Batch Processing - View Log - Select All) but in my Demo only have 3 of them (View Printable Report - View Log - Select All)… and with that I can’t create a file to upload for the clearinghouse…

Same thing happens with buttons like “Make Electronic Batch & Clear” or “Queue HCFA”… that I can’t find at my Demo and according to the Manual are basic to do the postings rightly…

Also I would like to know where you guys place the Electronic Payer Code for each carrier to go through the electronics submissions…

I will appreciate your advice…

Yvette,

I think your post needs to start in a new thread instead of continuing this one which started with the topic of upgrading OpenEMR from version 2.8.3.

Go back to the main list of threads in this forum
http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?forum_id=202504

Then scroll to the bottom of the list and you will see a box in which to start a new thread.

Unfortunately I have no experience with the billing part of OpenEMR. But there are many here who can help you. Best of luck with OpenEMR, we’ll be using it in southeastern Connecticut School Based Health Centers later this year.
