This little guy would be a good thing to keep in mind as we design GUI improvements for OpenEMR. Roughly 5.5 x 3 x 3/4 inches, 800 x 480 resolution, wireless networking, and it runs Linux and GTK+! Here’s the Slashdot link for a geek perspective:
Wow, your approaching the resolution of my pda, 240x320. Ok, maybe not really.
I feel a little crowded with OpenEMR at 1024x768. The only resolution I felt like I had enough room was on my old laptop which did 1600x1200 nicely, but I had to strain to read the small print and the battery life was terrible.
It would be nice to have the option for multiple views, but I’m not sure where I would start with this. A non-frame view would be nice.
With all the popularity of the tablet pc concept, I think that the pda is still a viable data entry platform if text entry can be avoided as much as possible. The problem is that my pda does not like the complex frame layout of OpenEMR. Otherwise, with it’s built in wifi, it’s like a tablet pc with a tiny screen. It can also reboot a lot faster. I have a Dell Axim 3, but my comments should apply to most current pdas.
Well I don’t have any good ideas for putting the PM side of things on a small screen. But we should be able to handle the basic entry and coding of encounters, which is where it really matters.
So I guess this mostly means making sure the encounter forms are not too crowded, or else making some custom versions of the forms for tablet PCs.
