The need to be able to carry multiple insurances on a patient without having to change or delete anything. Problem: Patient has open claims on a old insurance then changes to another insurance and you are forced to change the insurance information to the new when there is still old claims out on the old insurance coverage. BIG PROBLEM
csanchez62 I agree with you 100% I hope they can see the importance of that issue. I’m almost sure that having multiple insurance plans (not all active) was their first idea, the question is why they didn’t follow it since to me it was the right path. I state this on the fact that openemr have an effective date it only makes sense to me to have an effective date if you are thinking of having multiple insurance. Why have an effective date if you have no termination date it’s kind of pointless. That’s just my opinion as a user.
You can have multiple insurances. Just put in the correct effective date when entering the newer one. If insurance is dropped with no replacement, create an entry with the provider set to “Unassigned” with the relevant effective date.
When generating a claim, the system selects the entry with the most recent effective date that is on or before the visit date.
