Have you given any thought to defaulting the insurance to the billing location (ie Medicare to provider and all other to the group.)?  Obviously keeping the ability to change at the Fee Schedule.
This should make life easier for the provider who is in the field.
Maybe on the billing screen the ability to change it as well, along side and like Insurance X12 partner pulldowns.

Just some thoughts.

I am not sure I understand you.  The way I have seen is that some providers bill medicare personally, others as a group.  The flow has been created in such a way that if they enter the billing  and service facility in the calendar then it will automatically reflect in the encounter form and subsequently in the fee-sheet.

It’s a current gap in the way OpenEMR does calendaring.  I think this is a reasonable solution that supports defaults and allows for overrides.    Need to be careful on the gen_X12/gen_hcfa side and make sure it maps well.   And you should be able to option it in the globals setup.

Nice demo. Billing’s my weak point in OpenEMR (ie. Rod, Tony, and others will give much more valuable feedback), but looks good to me.
