Hi.

I’m new to OpenEMR. I use version 4.1.3. My task is to setup the following workflow (steps I can do marked as OK):

  • Doctor looks at his calendar for current patient and opens visit (makes it current and changes state to @ Arrived) [OK]
  • Doctor fills some info about patient etc [OK]
  • Doctor creates Laboratory Order [OK] I used these 2 docs to setup Lab tests: 1 and 2
  • Doc [1] says that: “The Lab procedure can be processed during or after the visit is closed. The visit must be closed with an admin transaction if no services or products are sold.”. But I don’t know how to close a visit. And I can’t find any docs describing how to close it.
  • After it I need to have orders be accessible by user in Laboratory. I created one in Procedures > Specialists, but I can’t log in using login and password I provided during creation of the specialist

So, my questions are the following:

  • how to close a visit?
  • how to create an account for Laboratory staff?

Thanks in advance. Peter

If the laboratory does not directly bill patients, ignore the business about closing the encounter.

See this & that.

  1. ‘Close’ of visit has two aspects - use check out function (fee sheet) to collect final direct patient payment with option to provide the invoice / payment confirmation to patient.
Doctor ‘closes’ the visit by eSigning after all entries related to visit are finalized.

  2. Procedures section defines external services. Only users (Admin -> Users) are able to log in to EMR. Only doctors are able to confirm the lab results.
