Lab Orders and Results

From what I understand Tony is working on the CPOE.  Part of CPOE will be orders for Lab Tests.

I am at a meeting today and just met with representatives from a company called LIFEPOINT.

Lifepoint can accept HL7 messages for lab orders, route the orders to Quest, Labcorp or even local hospital labs.
They can then route the lab results via HL7 message to the EMR program.

Lifepoint recievs the funding for this FROM THE LABS.  There is NO CHARGE to the physicians for this service.

They would be very interested in speaking with OpenEMR developers about having OpenEMR able to communicate with LifePoint.

We have been working with them at PHYAURA for over 8 months now.  They work with Axiom Labs in Florida.  The user interface that we have is just about complete.  If you would like a demo you can email me privately.  Sam has already seen it.  We are trying not to duplicate efforts.

Thanks

That is great.  But what is even better is if it is incorporated directly into the EMR and connect directly to whatever lab instead of going through a third party.

Jude,

I have two obversations regarding your post.  First Axiom is only one lab.  Im sure they are very good where you are but they are not where I am, and what is here is potentially not where other providers are.  Lifepoint and companies like it already have connections to MANY labs.

Second,  I do not want to see a demo until it is incorporated into the OpenEMR code.  Until then at least from my perspective it is vaporware.
