Hello,

I have a question from a client that I cannot find the answer on the board or in the Wiki. The question is about ICD10 -

“is OpenEMR ready to meet the requirements for ICD 10 CM in 2013 AND full compliance with ANSI 5010 by 12/31/11.  These are HOT TOPICS at the local networking meetings & Office Manages are being told by insurance company reps to inquire on these 2 topics when they’re in the market to purchase a new practice management software system or EMR system.”

I am still looking for the answers to these two questions. It would be great if someone could point me to the info.

Thanks!

Sherwin

The answer is yes, it would be silly to assume that those of  us that are dependent on OpenEMR would neglect such a thing.

ICD10 is so far off as to not be worth talking about yet.  And plans are in place for 5010 (if not funding/sponsorship).

Tony,

I don’t  think 2013 is that far for people not to start talking about it.  The issue is talking point in disease coding fora and training programmes are being offered by some institutions and organizations for conversion from ICD-9 to ICD-10.  Admittedly that some developers like you are too busy with other issues at present but I think others who can spare the time should begin to look at it.  With the certification of OpenEMR 4.0 by National HIT Coordinator, vendors and potential users would want to be sure of the future direction of the application in this regard.  Outside US, ICD-10 has become the norm and if OpenEMR is to continue to be International, then there should be a plan to include ICD-10, even if only as an alternative code, in the releases in the near future.
