How do i upgrade from openemr 2.8.3 to 3.0.1

I am running a command line based ubuntu linux system and am wanting to upgrade from 2.8.3 to the latest version of open emr 3.0.1 without losing any data that has already been entered so i am approaching this very carefully.  does anyone have a detailed instruction for doing this or any help?  the upgrade install instructions at http://www.oemr.org/modules/wiwimod/index.php?page=OpenEmrUpgradeHowtos&back=WiwiHome seem to be dated, however something like this is what I need, only for the newest version.

I can give you instructions, but need answer to two following questions:

Do you have php-gacl installed?

Are you using sql-ledger?

yes, php-gacl is installed and so is sql-ledger, however i don’t believe sql-ledger has been used for any accounting/billing purposes yet.  thank you!

Just to describe further, the manual details upgrade from 2.8.3 to 3.0.1 for the openemr appliance (still in testing phase, so not released yet).  If anybody else needs it, just send me an email.
