How can i add a menu (or category) to left_nav.php?

I want to add a menu (like the “Miscellaneous” menu) to left_nav.php. Under this menu, i want to have a series of options (links to certain pdf likes that wiil be uploaded on the server in order to be available for printing).

To add a link in left navigation bar and also its sub menus, you need to customize the file interface/main/left_nav.php .You can add this, by referring the others sections already included in the file.
