We’ve been working with healthcare organisations that use multiple systems for patient management, scheduling, CRM, reporting and clinical records.

One common challenge we keep seeing is that data often lives in different applications, making it harder for teams to get a complete operational picture.

I think the healthcare industry in general is leaning heavily towards FHIR for interoperability. The initial driver might be the regulatory push from ONC mandates, but the biggest value for engineers is its web native design. You also get features built for modern application architecture like you can use FHIR Batching for heavy analytical and reporting jobs across systems.

Absolutely. I agree that FHIR’s web-native design is one of its biggest advantages for modern healthcare applications. The ability to support scalable API-based integrations and batch operations makes it particularly useful when systems need to exchange and process larger volumes of healthcare data.

I’d be interested to hear how others are approaching FHIR integrations in OpenEMR, especially when dealing with performance and larger datasets.
