Frame based design

Just curious why we are still using frames in OpenEMR. Is this just because it all started that way and it’s now too much work to change?

see GitHub - yehster/openemr at iframe-alpha3 for the newer version of this that will be coming in.

This is the first step to getting framesets out of the way…

Basically, yeah. Back in the old days we did not have the CSS/DOM features that we have now. Changing it is a big deal, and hasn’t happened because nobody has wanted it badly enough to do or fund the work.

Also, frames are still supported in all major browsers even though they are obsoleted in recent HTML specs.

It pretty much boils down to having a plan for funding infrastructure work.

Yeah, I know how this goes
As long as something is still working we manage to look past those notices of ‘depriciated’. I have learned it the hard way that this can really bit you, though - often the transition from depriciated to unsupported comes at the most inopportune time when you really have more to do that you can handle at that moment.
So, I am glad to hear that effort is underway to tackle the problem. Will see how my progress is to wrap my mind around the system, hopefully so fast that I might give a hand in the near future.
