**Situation:** tried to follow all the instructions on upgrading from 8.3.0 to 8.4.0 , i created a directory named it openemer\_bk under which i put the old directory openemr, then i wget the new version , then tar -pxvzf openemr-8.4.0.tar.gz then changed its name to openemr , copied openemr\_bk/openemr/sites/ to openemr/sites/, but when [https://localhost/openemr/sql\_upgrade.php](http://localhost/openemr/sql_upgrade.php), i get an error , i put everything back together the way it was before so i am back to 8.3.0 until i find out what I am missing. **OpenEMR Version** I’m using OpenEMR version 8.3.0 **Browser** : I’m using: firefox **Operating System** I’m using:ubuntu 26 desktop **Search** Did you search the forum for similar questions? no relevant posts **Logs** Did you check the logs? no ( not sure the path to the log that captures this error) ---

found what was wrong, now I am on 8.4.0 , seems sites did not go in the right place when copied , it went under in the tree, corrected it and it is all good
