I have been adding some custom fields to the demographics form layout and ran into a problem with changing things once new fields have been added. Initially, I was able to add fields (e.g., static text to serve as a blank line) and then go back and clear the label to make a “truly static” text that just displays the blank line. However, I just tried to go back and do this procedure again, and the changes are NOT saving. I then tried to change other details of the field (e.g., data type, label cols, options) and realized NONE of the changes are saving when editing previously added fields. Has anyone run into this problem before. I am running v4.1.1 (14). I can’t see what I might be doing wrong?? Ideas? Thanks for your attention to this questions.
I can’t even update the field order. It won’t let me save the change when I re-number the field to 33! Arggh !?!?!
I select the box, then change the number, then move to a different field (just to make sure the change is completed) then scroll to the bottom and click “Save Changes.” When the page reloads, the change has not been saved.
Update: So after some further investigation, this refusal to save changes ONLY occurs with fields in a new Group I created called “External Providers.” I can save changes that occur to things in other groups (e.g. "Contact). The unusual thing is that I was able to successfully update fields and save these changes in this newly created group earlier…and now I cannot?
Why is the Address Book inadequate for the needs of your psychiatrists? There is a plethora of fields to enter info on medical professionals in the Address Book.
Why is address book info going into the Demographics section of the Patient Summary (if that is what you are doing)?
Good question. The answer is probably because I’m new at this I wasn’t able to find a way to link an entry in the address book with a specific client. I want to be able to open a patient and see who a psychiatrist, physician, counselor, etc. is OUTSIDE of our organization. Can you advise a better way to do this while still keeping this information linked and easily accessible from the individual patient level. I probably don’t have a good understanding of the address book feature yet. Thanks for your patience.
I just added three providers in Demographic fields. You can find it under CHOICES in new Demo version 4.1.2
I did not test the BLANK lines again in Groups that are already there. It did work before. (It did not work in the NEW GROUP created)
I called them Providers 2, 3 (these are copies of the field of Provider)but you also could name them External Provider 1 external provider 2 etc. To be able to use this field you need to include the providers in the Database as administration => User (you can name them as Clinician or Physician)
Provider 4 is from the option => Provider in stead of => Provider NPI (Don’t know what the difference is.
My more difficult way but preferred way would be as implementation of Provider 5 (Since in Prov 1,2,3,4 USERS have the possibility of working on your computer, if they know their USER and PASSWORD.)
Can be done as follows: Make an extra entry for address books(Administration Lists): External Provider. In Demographics make an extra field with the option of DataType => TextboxList and for List => Address book Types.
This way you can add the name of the Doctor and it will be displayed as: External Provider Dr. Doctor etc… (it sounds complicated, but if you need more explanation, just ask and I will make a step by step WIKI-page)
Instead of re-inventing the wheel, please consider using the Address Book for the external medical professionals.
Use one of the User Defined boxes to enter the name of the professionals as suggested by Pimm or you can create another section in Issues specifically for external psychiatrists. If you upgrade to 4.1.2(1), the section construction in Issues will be a lot easier.
Usually in a medical practice it is not necessary to have immediate access to specific information about other physicians, therefore a link from the Patient Summary to the Address Book is not that crucial. Perhaps the needs of your physicians are different. One of the developers will have to tell you how to create that link.
Thanks folks. Glad that bug was identified! I’m glad I wasn’t going crazy. Thanks also for the perspectives on how to store these data. I’ll have to pause and think a bit more how to store the info. You bring up some very good points. Thanks again!
