Send me a message with a contact for you, and I’ll send you a number to call.  I can probably talk you through your woes.  I program AND I build wooden boats AND I’m a teacher…so I have a little bit of that patients stuff on hand.

Maybe answering your question will help.
On the machine you installed xammp/openemr pack on, open a browser (prefereably firefox, but any will do).  type localhost/openemr/setup.php into the address window, or http://localhost/openemr/setup.php if it makes it seem more official to you to do it that way.
That should do you……“localhost” is telling the browser to look for servers right on the same machine.  From another machine on a LAN, just type http://myserversname/openemr/setup.php, or the ip adress of the server on the LAN such as http://192.168.0.100/openemr/setup.php
  Get it ja? nay?

Thanks for the reply, when i type localhost/openemr/setup.php into firefox it just says - webpage not found!

is your xammp control panel running? (C:\xammp\xammp-control.exe)?  Are the apache and mysql servers running (and preferably have the install as service boxes checked)?
Does anything show up if you just type in “localhost”  or “localhost/xammp”?
From the xammp control panel, you can also hit one of the admin buttons to check things out.  See if the apache admin button opens the apache page in your default browser.

yes the xammp control panel is running with the apache & mysql servers running. if i just type localhost/xammp it brings up the control panel for it
