Does OpenEMR have available the DSM-IV (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) as part of its code? If not, how can I help integrating it?

You’d probably have to get a license from the owner, the APA, though (for the most part) the DSM4 codes align with the ICD9 relevant codes.

Jose,
Our Agency is considering how OpenEMR can be effectively used in our mental health practice with 60+ clinicians. Having the DSM-IV integrated in some fashion could be helpful. Could you elaborate on your idea? How do you envision the DSM-IV to work within OpenEMR?

Hi everybody,
Based on a document that listed the functional requirements of an EMR, I thought the DSM-IV structure could be applied as well as the ICD-9, in terms of:
ICD-9 Translations of Code to Data
ICD-9 (Check diagnosis against gender, age, other as necessary)
ICD-9 procedure checking against diagnosis
As Steven suggested, I’ll contact the APA for information and requirements. I planned to implement OpenEMR in the Administration of Mental Health and Against Addiction Services in Puerto Rico, and they’asked me to bring special attention to the DSM-IV, as it will be very helpful to their needs.
