Demographics display looks off

On the demo site when I go to patient/summary then edit demographics and click on the contact tab the formatting looks off there are boxes extending beyond the white background.  I was having this issue with my own install as I created another demographics tab with lots of information in it so it looks really bad.  I looked at the file /library/patient_file/summary/demographics_full.php I found where it looks like the white part was extened for the insurance part, It looks like style=‘height:auto;width:auto’ was added.  I have spent much time trying different fixes all to now avail.  Which file should I look at to change the tabcontainer settings “style” for demographics.  I hope I explained it sufficiently.  Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance for your help.

IMH opinion it has to do with the Browser settings. The smaller the computer resolution/screen the more problems you get with readability and layout. In Firefox you can hit: CNTR and MINUS (to go back to former state hit CTR and Plus together) and see if this little bit of more screen, but smaller characters solves the problem. To make it usable for every Browser and every size of screen is another problem.

This also helps for some of the input screens opening to make choices etc.

blankev, thanks so much for your input.  I tied it in chrome and Opera and it seem to work fine.  It is just Firefox that is giving me issues.  I tried the cntr plus and minus, all that seemed to do was zoom in and out.  I guess it might be a sitting in Firefox.  Could you try it in firefox to see if it happens?  If it works fine for you any idea what setting in mine is off I have tried it on three different computes with Firefox all with the same weird result.  Thanks so much for your help,  John

I look at Phil Belford. With mom’s name Gardner. (Demo Site Open-EMR.org, who feels so sad)

It all looks normal to me.

Conclusion, must be a setting Firefox. There is a FireFox page where you  can almost adapt all settings of FireFox, but I could not find it again. With that you need some help of another user.

Alternative reason: Did you make any changes in the length of fields in Demographics or Insurances? Or, did you change any names in Administration>List…. could be the length of this new input. Could also be a long name of an Insurance company.

If this all fails, please login in the Demo of Open-EMR now and see if it is still there, could be some input of yesterday that diod not work. I did it in the past, but the next morning it is all clean and renewed with the original input. Right now it is to me normal

I also tried to login as zhportal with a new password Fred and could not duplicate your FireFox problem in Demographic > Summary > Contact in my FireFox V 18.0.1 it all seems like always in OpenEMR.

I’m having this same problem in Firefox after my vendor added extra tabs. I would attach a screenshot, but I don’t see any way to do that. Is there not a way to attach a screenshot to my forum post on SourceForge?

biller2 wrote on Sunday, January 27, 2013:

blankev, Thanks so much for the quick reply.  You might be right about me making the width too long, however I loose a lot of real estate by not using the entire width of screen or at least more then what it seems to be allowing me.  I went in and added a text field to the demo site and gave it a width of 100 and it now extends beyond the white background.  I would like to extend the white background like it is just a little further down the page for the insurance section.  I think I need to either edit the demographics_full.php file or maybe a css file?  Thanks again for the help.  John

1. What do you mean by extra Tabs???

images can be send directly of through a link in Skydrive.? Or facebook as a like.

2. Or send it to:

pimmblankevoort at hotmail dot com

3. use under Add a Reply in this forum the last option above this input field, square number 8. need to upload the image first to a http:// on the internet

Here is the link to show the extra tab.  By extra tab I mean the one after Misc I called this one leesa.  I don’t believe the extra tab in demographics is the issue.
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B9SZKq6I5oe5ZmdyMGtZYUxLVzg/edit

Hopfully I linked this correctly first time i’ve shared files =)  Let me know if they don’t work.

What I would like to do is extend the white background as far as the one for Insurance is.  It would be nice if it was a browser issue however I think I need to change files.  I think demographics_full.php or a css file.   Again thanks much for helping me resolve this issue  John

Do you have access to the Layouts > Demographics > , than make a new Leesa1 tab with other dimensions. See if you can add dimensions to the eligibility notes that makes the big enough for your entries. If that is not enough, I can’t help you. Probably another real GURU can hint you where to find the dimensions of the background for Demographics.

To make the columns closer to each other make the dimensions of the fields (left side) smaller.

Yes the images where visible.

biller2 wrote on Sunday, January 27, 2013:

Yes,  have access to layouts > Demographics I tried creating a new group “tab” it doesn’t seem to have any dimensions for the white background.  Then it wants the first bit of data ie order, id, label, uo,r data, type, size, maximum size, list, label cols, data cols, options and description.   There doesn’t seem to be an option or a way to increase the background size to fill the width of the whole page.  Let me know If I’m missing something.  I just have a feeling its going to be some programming in a file but it sure would be nice if there was an option under demographics.  Were you able to make the white background go all the way to the edge of the screen like whats shown under the insurance section?  Thanks much  John

blankev wrote on Sunday, January 27, 2013:

Ok, just make your field an area-text field and find the right dimensions of that field so you are happy with what you see. You can make the field very hughe, but due to the background not as wide as you have done now. ………

Follow the example of the fields you like to implement of WHO, Choices, miscellaneous,  etc.

in the Open-emr.org   demo I just made a field that is even bigger than my whole patient file and all within the white background but needs some fine tuning since the labels of both field are at the bottom of the input fields.

Next weekend I might have soem extra time available and could make the same LEESA demographics as in you image. For now I am done. Let me know if you need more support.

Gr, Pimm

You want to add info on If the client is eligible and why. Should not take so many words, or do I misunderstand and the smaller the client the more text you have to write?

The width of the “tab background” is defined by the .css “theme file” that you choose.

If you look in Globals>Theme, the name of the file your system is configured to use is listed there.

Once you’ve determined that file name, then you can edit interface/themes/style_oemr.css (or whatever then bring up that file in a text editor).

Search for the styling of “div.tab”

div.tab { 	min-height: 180px; background: #ffffff none repeat scroll 0 0; margin-bottom: 10px;width:665px;}

This is what the relevant line looks line on my system.
You can change width to auto or some other fixed amount instead of 665px as you see fit.

Pimm, thanks so much for trying to help.  If I get the jist of what you were saying was just make the layout and fields I choose to stay within the white background yes I could try that but I don’t want to waste the extra screen space and make the page longer then needed.

Yaster,  yes yes yes yes that is what I thought I needed to do but was hopeful it was a setting like Pimm was suggesting.  I will take a look at following your suggestions.  I really think that will solve my problems I thought it had something to do with the .css file just no idea how to find it or what to look for in it.   Thanks again for your input tis very greatly appreciated was pulling what hair I had left out =)  I’ll report back later,  Thanks much John

Yaster, that worked perfectly, exactly what I was after thanks so much, was greatly appreciated.  John

Yester,
without your permission I included your advise in the Faq OpenEMR-wiki page:

http://www.open-emr.org/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ&action=submit#How_to_change_Background_settings_for_Demographics.3F

Please comment or advise if I was not supposed to do this or if you have a better place in Wiki Pages for this advise!

Tnx, Pimm
