Hi,
I need to configure sending Emails to patients for appointment reminders.
The customer is using a Windows platform and is using OpenEMR version 4.0
There are some bits and pieces on the forum but nothing definitive.
Can somebody assisst with this. Has anybody set this up already.

You should look at http://wiki.oemr.org/wiki/Sms_and_Email_Notification_Howtos if you are not planning to send SMS reminders, We do not have experience with Windows set up but guess the steps will be similar. Be sure to :
1. Test smtp connection is working
2. cron_email_notification job is scheduled as per requirements. Although there are references to sending emails every hour, you can set the frequency. We send the messages after lunch break and at the end of the day.
3. We modified the reminder message template in found in automatic_notification table directly - not sure where the interface for that template is. Also if like us, you change the message content to show HTML content and images by reference, a minor change is needed (do not remember what at the moment) in the cron php.
4. At one time the cron_email job had a bug about recurring appointments. So be sure to test all appointments.
5. Be sure to understand the HIPPA related checks in the software - the emails do not go out just 'cos the email address is on the file.
If you do not mind, be sure to document every step and post a how-to for windows platform.

There is a great description of how to implement E-mails under windows, and I offered to put it on the WIKI pages of OEMR, but did not find time to make the layout from e-mails received to Wiki page.
But is has also something to do with XAMPP and Mercury-settings and activation.
I can’t remember if SMS was getting some attention and that specific solution.
If I can find time I will look though old e-mails, got some 4300 email with some relevancy stored in my archives………
