Hello! As we know there are three categories of issues : Medical Problems, Allergy and Medication. What coding you use for medications?

ok thank you. Why in the demo of openEMR 4.1.2 you use ICD 9 for Medication?

Someone is presently working on integrating the rxnorm drug database into the prescribing function and also a better integration of the prescription function and medications list.
Thanks for reminding the project about this as it is awkward (yes embarrassing) to explain the ICD-9 lookup to new users or during demos. It might be useful to associate a medication with a diagnosis for some insurance plans, but I haven’t seen that prevent the task of prior authorizations for certain medications.

All Issues, be they Allergy, Surgery or Dental are associated with a Diagnosis, therefore ICD-9 codes are used. The Issues are not coded for that specific Issue. For example, in Surgery, instead of CPT coding, there is a lookup for ICD-9.
