I have just downloaded CMSs NPI database but it decompressed to 3GB. I don’t think I want all of it in my AB but how Can I get some of it in?
It would be nice if it Were pre- populated with local providers for referrals.

I haven’t seen the data as yet, but if you can sort by Zip codes you might be able to grab the desired data and copy it to another subset which you could then map to the address book data. I would suggest selecting to at least one county beyond your "expected" area on all sides.
I do not know how that links in OpenEMR, though, so merely uploading may not be sufficient. If possible to try a test setup, that would give you the best idea. I presume the CMS listing shows both individual and group NPI’s, and you might find duplications as a result of that. Not sure how best to handle that either. Sorry I could not be more helpful.
