How do you set up a clinical reminder for a cancer screening (mammogram) for a patient?

fsgl wrote on Wednesday, March 19, 2014:

That rule has been configured. Administration/Rules to edit.

Hi Jeanette,

Take a peek at the Clinical Decision Rules module. http://www.open-emr.org/wiki/index.php/CDR_User_Manual

I read through the manual but the problem is that I cannot seem to set up an active alert for my patient. I can’t seem to find the step by step procedure to set one up.

fsgl wrote on Friday, March 21, 2014:

  1. Administration->Rules.
  2. Click on the Mammogram rule. See Screenshot.
  3. Click edit, which is to the right of Summary. See Screenshot-1.
  4. Uncheck Passive Alert, check Active Alert, click Save. See Screenshot-2.
  5. Edit Reminder Intervals if so desired, click Save.

It was my pleasure.

found a couple missing lines in the database.sql file pertaining to cancer screening intervals:

the way it installs now it’s kind of rough on the patient (default interval of 1 month)

things could get tender down there

stephen, you forgot to update the version.php file,

thanks,

Talking to oneself is not part of Bleuler’s 4 A’s (phew!).

It doesn’t even have a nifty name like echolalia.

Have a fun weekend.

Hi,
There should be no interval set by default for those two rules. If that is the case, then guessing the Rules GUI may be doing this inadvertently when you modify the rule. The prostate screening and colonoscopy screening are set to remind to happen one time (when age 50 I think) on the current rules(this is because there is controversy in PSA screening, but should have a discussion with the patient; and colon screening is varied depending on the screening method chosen).

ok thanks, currently the rule GUI must be setting 1 month if there is no entry in the rule_target that corresponds to that measure

i was looking at the colorectal screening for a surgeon’s office that would like openemr to generate the patient reminder based on the timeframe the previous colonoscopy result would merit

found the guidance that matches what you state:

http://www.cancer.org/healthy/findcancerearly/cancerscreeningguidelines/american-cancer-society-guidelines-for-the-early-detection-of-cancer

and

http://www.uspreventiveservicestaskforce.org/uspstf08/colocancer/colors.htm#discussio

i’m thinking i will have to clone the rule and have one for normal result with 10 years and a result with adenoma to be 5 years
